Penny treated like a 'naughty child' at the SAMA’S

SABC 2’s Motswako presenter, Penny Lebyane, has thrown a hissy fit towards the organisers of this year’s MTN SA Music Awards (SAMAs).  According to City Press, Lebyane was forbidden to co- present an award with Metro FM DJ Glen Lewis just moments before they were set to go on stage.

Lebyane expressed that she was treated like 'a child in a naughty corner' by the organisers and is especially furious with Randall Abrahams who is the chairman of the awards supervisory committee.   Like any other drama the news of Penny being sacked spread like wild fire in the media industry.  Metro FM DJ William Lehong took to Twitter to dish on the embarrassing ordeal.

Lehong:  #SAMADRAMA UPDATE:  As a result of her tantrums yesterday afternoon, @PennyLebyane didn’t present an award with @GlenLewisSA last night.”

Lebyane did not take this lightly and rebuked him as an 'incompetent broadcaster'.

Lebyane told City Press the issue began during a morning rehearsal where she was told that she would not present an award with Glen Lewis. After been sent from one managing director to another she finally sat down with Randall Abrahams who explained why she suddenly would not be presenting an award with Lewis.

Lebyane: “I sat like a child in a naughty corner waiting to be disciplined; Randall came, looked at me and walked past. He had a chat with Seaward (managing director), then came back and told me to come outside with him to find a quiet place to talk.”

According to City Press, Lebyane was not permitted to present on the night because she had failed to 'stick to the script' during the pre-award show the previous night where she was co-hosting with former Motsweding FM presenter The Big Ben.

Abrahams did not take this lightly and accused Lebyane of not sticking to the script and told her she unfortunately could not present the award with Glen Lewis. An emotional Leybane fled to the media room and wept.  When asked about the incident the SAMA organisers issued a statement:  “The SAMA organisers do not comment on decisions made regarding the selection of presenters.”

Shame, we hope Penny was given a goodie bag at least.
