Da L.E.S and Minnie Dlamini

As part of the promotional run for his new album, Diamond in Africa, Da L.E.S has been appearing on radio shows all morning, including DJ Fresh's early morning show 'Fresh at Five' on 5FM.

It was on the show that Les (according to Huffington Post South Africa), referred to himself as thee Diamond in Africa, hence the album's title.

"I just felt like I'm THE diamond in Africa and I made the one song 'Diamond in Africa' and from that song I just felt like I was going to name the album 'Diamond in Africa," he said.

But local media personality Minnie Dlamini has been calling herself that for a while now...

Well, technically she's been calling herself SOUTH Africa's diamond but who's to say she wasn't looking to branch out? She has been doing a lot of work across the continent and she has even scored herself not one, but TWO Nigerian magazine covers.

The first was for a mag called 'Style Mania'

And the second was for a publication called Exclusive Magazine alongside Nigerian TV host IK.

In a Zaziwa interview with Pearl Modiaidie, Dlamini explained that the nickname came from Rihanna's hit song' Diamonds' and that she felt that she became a Diamond following her very public transformation into one of the country's most notable presenters.

"South Africa knows my journey. I was a lump of coal and I went through all the trials and tribulations and I developed until I started to shine," she told Modiadie.

As for Les, he told Fresh he's got a more polished and mature sound now.

"I just felt like I'm THE diamond in Africa and I made the one song 'Diamond in Africa' and from that song I just felt like I was going to name the album 'Diamond in Africa," he said.

Diamond in Africa is the rapper's fourth studio album and can be purchased on iTunes. It features collaborations with the likes of Family Tree Records' Nadia Nakai and Gemini Major as well as Da L.E.S's best friend forever, AKA.

Whether it's a diamond in Africa or South Africa's diamond, who gets your vote? Minnie or Da L.E.S?
