Although Theo isn't in the entertainment scene as much as we'd like him to be, the Boom Shaka member is still very much around. ZAlebs caught up with the artists to hear what he's been up to lately.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen you release any music, are you planning on releasing a single anytime soon?
I am about to release my single in few days, I needed to focus on other things I have put off for a while.
Your friend and Boom Shaka member, Thembi Seete has evolved into a savvy businesswoman. What has she taught you as a businessman?
Thembi has taught me so much, I look up to her, she is a very courageous woman, she takes chances, she tells me this all the time, look after number one which is you.
You’re known to be a man of style. Have you ever concerned branching into the fashion industry?
I have always had a strong passion for fashion since high school and yes through the years I thought I would work on a clothing label but lost interest, but maybe I will be inspired again to work on my label who knows.
It’s been 10 years since the Lebo Mathosa passed away, can you tell us about the most memorable experience that you and her shared?
I cannot believe it’s already 10 years since her passing, time really flies. She will always have a special place in my heart with so many memorable experiences. I will always remember her brave self, she was so giving and very spiritual and quite shy, believe it or not. Lebo also taught me a lot.
She used to say to me Boy when you want something go get it, no matter what, do not allow anyone to tell you, you cannot, yes you can.
Your thoughts on the current state of our local music industry?
I’m happy about the growth of the music industry. The hip hop guys are doing a great job and handling their music like a business which is great because this is a short-lived industry. My advice to the youth is to stay in school and follow your dreams anything is possible to those who believe.
There’s no doubt that the ladies have always liked you. During Boom Shaka’s heydays what was the craziest thing you experienced with your female fans?
I am honored to know this!
I guess the girls did pay a lot of attention to me, it was crazy, I had a lot of great moments and also scary ones.
I had so many stalkers, I once had a girl who chilled at my house, she would call and breath on the phone at odd hours of the night or just play one of our songs and laugh. I guess she always wanted to hear my voice and sleep well, it’s the price you pay when you are in the industry. Funny enough I still have quite a few of those even today.
