Black Motion is one of the top musical duos in the country that has redefined the Afro-house music industry. The pair have performed on some of the biggest stages in the world, worked with some of the biggest names in the country, and won prestigious awards to prove how talented they are.
The electronic music duo is made of two friends- Thabo who is usually behind the percussions, and Bongani ‘Murda’ Mohosana. The two musical gurus formed Black Motion in 2009 and have been blessing us with great music for the past decade.

Thabo from Black Motion background
Thabo from Black Motion’s real name is Thabo Mabogwane but he usually goes by his stage name- Thabo Smol.
He was born on 24th April 1986 in Soshanguve, North Pretoria. Not much is known about the artist’s family except that he has a sister called Nthabiseng, and he is still very close with his parents and he often shares photos of himself with them.
The educational background of Thabo from Black Motion is currently unavailable and it is not clear if he holds a college degree.

According to public records, Thabo from Black Motion is currently unmarried. The artist has however been in a long-term relationship with businesswoman Rakgadi Sedy Koetle who happens to be the little sister of Scandal! Actress Mapaseka Koetle-Nyokong.
The couple who welcomed their firstborn daughter in June 2018 was once one of the most admired celebrity couples in South Africa and in our eyes, they looked perfect for each other.
However, six months after the birth of their daughter- Refentse Tshimologo Mabogwane, Thabo Smol and Rakgadi broke up. According to sources, their break up was very nasty and even required family intervention.
In 2020, Thabo from Black Motion and his baby mama rekindled their relationship and for a brief time, we thought that things were finally back on track for the two.
However, it seems that some of the couple’s earlier issues had not been resolved and for the second time, the couple called quits on their relationship.
Although not together, Thabo from Black Motion and his baby mama seem to have a civil relationship and as co-parents to their daughter, they are doing a good job.
Did Black Motion split?
Since April 2022, there have been speculations that Thabo and Murdah Bongz split and that Black Motion is dead. The speculations began after both Thabo and Murdah started working on individual projects.
In a statement issued out through their production label- Spirit Motion, Black Motion refuted claims that they had parted ways and explained that the duo would be embarking on solo projects but that the duo is still intact.
