Television star Somizi Mhlongo has taken to social media to celebrate his late mom’s birthday Mary Twala. The legendary actress was born on 14 September 1939, and she would have turned 80 years today.

Mam Mary Twala was a renowned actress whose work is still being celebrated by many even across the world. The actress’s acting career spanned six decades and her last project was on Beyonce’s Black Is King.

In a sweet birthday shout out to his mom Somizi shared a video of her mom during her last moments in hospital with her friend Television actress Lilian Dube.  In the video the duo is heard planning a little celebration on the 20th and deciding on what outfits they were going to wear. “Don’t tell me it’s a surprise baby. We are going to be toodoo,” said Mary, while wearing a hospital gown and a brown beanie.

Somizi said on that day her mom was in a semi coma and until mam Lilian came to visit her, she was in a jovial mood.  The TV star said he will tell us what happened and how one day.

Somizi wished his mom a happy 80th birthday, “Someone is Cutting onions.How can I not choke up watching this.Happy 80th Ma.On this day my mom was in a semi coma until mam Lillian walked in and she was in this state…..I’ll tell u one day whT happened and how, very hilarious.”

Mary Twala died on July 4, 2020 at around 11am at Parklane private hospital after a long illness. Confirming her departure Somizi took to Instagram to make the announcement in a post he wrote, “I’m shattered to the core…..but I’d be very selfish if I don’t release her….my mom lived to the fullest….achieved beyond her dreams….its hurts like hell…..I won’t lie…..a day without her calling to either say I love u or give me money,” shared Somizi in his post.

The actress was laid to rest on July 9, 2020 in Soweto, in a funeral attended by close friends and family. At her funeral Somizi  said he has lost a mother on earth but he has gained a powerful ancestor. Somizi said anyone should not be surprised when he rises beyond because he has the most generous ancestor.

Somizi described his mother as a very successful woman in every aspect, whose work ethic was impeccable. He said her mother was a very punctual person who left on his father’s birthday and was laid to rest on his husband’s birthday.
