Kwaito Star Mshoza Has Passed On

Nomasonto Maswanganyi who was popularly known as Mshoza has reportedly died. News of the Kwaito Queen’s death sent shockwaves across social media platforms and messages of condolences are pouring in.

This morning, her very close friend Khanyi Mbau broke the news of her passing without revealing any further information. “REST IN PEACE MY LOVE . I am tired 2020,” wrote Khanyi. The late Mshoza passed away in a Johannesburg hospital this morning, 19 November 2020. Earlier this year, Mshoza allegedly contracted the Coronavirus. Cause of death at this point is not yet known.

The 37-year-old is survived by her two children, her son Jacob Junior and her daughter Pride.

The bubbly Kwaito musician’s impressive career spans for more than two decades with her timeless hit Kortez being her most memorable to date. She started singing at the tender age of 10 and started dancing for kwaito group, Chiskop from 1998. The child star officially started her solo career at the young age of 15.

She made a huge comeback with her hit ‘Abantu Bam’ Laba’ and mentored many celebrities who were new in the industry.

Many are touched by her sudden passing and expressed their shock after receiving the news.

“Yet another loss to the music industry. It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of kwaito star Nomasonto Maswanganyi, affectionately known as Mshoza,” wrote SAMRO music label.

“Just received some bad News Mshoza wamaboza is no more. And lapho we were in studio few weeks ago naye euuu kwaze kwabuhlung #RIPMshoza,
” wrote Tipcee.

“RIP Godmother. The Gigi Gang Loves you. We will tell you all about the strides when we see you again. You opened it all up. You fought and lived a good one. A pioneer. A sister. A fearless women. Mbokodo. Her hit single , “Kortes” and opening up doors for young women in the Kwaito/ hip hop scene,” wrote Gigi Lamayne.

Skeem Saam actor Charles Maja, who played Big Boy Mabitsela passed away at the age of 54 after suffering from a stroke.
