Yesterday, South Africans were shocked to hear that former YoTV presenter-turned-SAFTA-winning-actor and producer, Akhumzi Jezile, had died in a car accident along with fellow entertainers, Siyasanga Kobese & Thobani Mseleni after a a head-on collision on the N6 near Queenstown.
The names of the other two people in the car have not yet been released as their families have not been informed of their deaths.
The people in the other car were unharmed and police have confirmed that a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
In the hours since the news broke, fellow celebrities have been sharing memories from their moments with the star shortly before his passing. Take a look:
I remember you always saying in our ears "Don't lose the moment... Well done guys." Now that's all we have, moments reduced to memories. Words fail me when trying to articulate how grateful we are... March 2016 I auditioned for @yotvlive and you've given me your consistent vote of confidence since. It's been well over 2 years of making television magic as you directed the pants off of our Wednesday & Friday shows. You and I especially loved joining forces and teasing @presidentthato about the pettiest of things, clothes and crushes alike. Singing "My lipgloss is popping" every single time Thato had a closeup shot. Trying to remain focused through all the banter from "The man upstairs in our ears." We find comfort in knowing that, like the song you loved to sing "It is well with my soul". It is indeed well... You weren't someone people merely met, but your infectious smile and energy were an event, an encounter. It's still so difficult to register. We had so many plans we spoke about on Wednesday. But God knows, it is well... You lived your life fully and passionately, unapologetically. Akhumzi. Siyasanda. Skhumbuzo. Thobani 💔💔💔 Only God knows. Your exits have left a dent in our industry but heaven earned itself 4 amazing individuals. #RipAkhumzi #RIPThobani #RIPSiya #RIPSkhu
We came into 2018 together, first time we hung out. Trying to build a friendship since then. Such joy you brought, I’ll cherish this video forever, the only one of u and I. THANK YOU!!! U were such an amazing friend to @bongapercy that I automatically adopted u in my heart. Akhumzi was more than just an amazing media personality, super creative, talented and tv industry practioner/giant. He was a force to be reckoned with. #RIPAkhumzi YOU ARE ALL OUR LOSS!!!
