Right from the jump, Okmalumkoolkat’s fashion diary was a definite page turner. Over the years, his style has naturally evolved, but Homeboy stays piecing those threads together – authentically.
Originality cannot be faked because it comes from one’s heart. Having done art related studies at Vega, the Gqi hit-maker gained invaluable knowledge of how to broaden his influences and actually use them to independently or collectively articulate his artistry.
A fashion-forward artist such as Okmalumkoolkat is bound to create his own clothing portal – of which he did. Upon the release of his debut album, Mlazi Milano, a new range from his Spovagang clothing label also saw the light of day. The unique clothing pieces are unisex, but only the brave and authentic can clad themselves in a Spovagang item.
Smiso (wgich is his real name) is one of the few artists in South Africa that has been successful at simultaneously infusing his fashion and musical expressions.
He does it so well that one never feels as though he is projecting two separate mediums – fashion feeds his music and vice versa.
The Umlazi-born entertainer has definitely transcended fashion fads and continues to go about his own swag game.
