Ntando Duma speaks about her abusive childhood and the fickleness of the industry

Ntando Duma

She is one of the most recognizable faces in South Africa and there is no stopping her.

We first met her when she was a presenter on a children’s program and she has grown right in front of our eyes.

The former Rhythm City actress may be in a great place in her life right now, but it hasn’t always been an easy journey for her.

In an in-depth interview with Drum magazine, the 21 year old shares details of her abusive past

Ntando grew up in Orange Farm & lived in a shack with her parents and siblings. Her father who passed away in 2008 was abusive towards her, her siblings and her mother, she said, “he just did not care, he would beat up my mother and when we cried, he would beat us up too.”

She says that the last time she saw him was when he tried to kill them, “he set the family shack alight, one evening he came home drunk & instead of knocking & asking someone to open up for him, he set the house on fire.”

Luckily no one was harmed, her mom managed to get them all out of the shack.

Ntando, like many who have come to learn how fickle and fake the entertainment industry can be, nearly fell into the trap of faking it until she made it.

However, her humble beginnings encouraged her to go back to basics and be herself.

” I tried to live the celebrity lifestyle with perfect hair and make-up it felt like I was acting on and off set, so I decided to stay true to myself.”

Ntando Duma’s life is in a much better place right now, she is living her dream & slaying each and every day.
