Taking to her social media account, Nomcebo expressed gratitude and pride at the success Jerusalema amassed not only locally, but internationally as well. The song, which was at some point seen as the world’s anthem, has become the very first song in South Africa to have a Gold status earning.
Both Nomcebo and Master KG, who are performers of the song, have gushed over the success of the song. The hit single was released in November 2019 but gained traction during the early stages of the pandemic. The Jerusalema challenge was one that united nationalities and they all danced the same dance and to the same tune.

“I wrote and performed “JERUSALEMA” in my language isiZulu. The success it has had has been recognised around the world and today it is the highest-earning song in South Africa earning Gold Status @riaa_awards,” said Nomcebo.
Nomcebo then threw shade at the people who tried to ‘dim her light’ while she is surrounded by people who want to see her succeed.
“My story is far from over, I’ve lived an amazing life with great people who have helped me throughout my ups and downs. Despite the fact that some people have attempted to dim my light and downplay my work and achievement.
“I am proud of myself and I know that my voice will forever be synonymous with this great accomplishment. Thank you God & thank you to all my supporters. Kazi iyozala nkomoni [I wonder what the outcome will be like.]”
Both Nomcebo and Master KG were at loggerheads over the royalties and they are yet to come to a conclusion. As the person who wrote the lyrics and performs the song, Nomcebo demands more payment for the song.
“Thank you to all the fans of #Jerusalema, you have made my dreams a reality, with attaining a global hit song. My voice and lyrics have transcended globally, but I still await what is due to me”
“Can you confirm that you received R1.5m so far from Jerusalema? and before I explain many things you guys haven’t paid me for Xola Moya Wami…And again, Nomcebo can you tell these people that you are demanding a bigger percentage than mine on this song?” he tweeted.
“Last year Nomcebo started Jerusalema tour without me and I never had a problem and a few weeks back I started my tour and then Nomcebo went to the media and created a story that I’m leaving her behind … I don’t really know why things must be like this.”
