The extract published by the paper details how the current CEO of Joburg City Theatres klapped Sarafina actress Leleti Khumalo after discovering she was having an affair with her then-husband. The extract also details the abuse Xoliswa suffered abuse at the hands of Mbongeni.
Poet Lebo has now spoken out on how Mbongeni’s “abuse is legendary” yet he keeps getting work and lifetime achievement awards.
“There are many more stories. I hope this is the beginning of the tide turning,” tweeted Lebo.
Lebo also took shoots at how women who beat up women involved with their partners “have no desire to leave their husbands, & they know their husbands won’t change, so they take out their rage on their husband’s lovers.”
She also called for the end of women beating up their partner’s girlfriends and fighting over men should fall.
Lebo’s comments have sparked quite the huge debate on Twitter with many weighing how Mbongeni “statutory raped” Leleti as she was about 16 or 17 at the time.
