Big Zulu’s Heartfelt Tribute Song To Riky Rick Brings Mzansi To Tears

South African rapper, composer, and fashion icon Riky Rick has been honoured with a touching tribute song by multi-award winner Big Zulu.

The rapper’s passing has sent shockwaves across the country and messages of condolence are still pouring in for his family. Big Zulu has penned a song that has brought many people to tears.

The tribute song is not out yet but it seems as though they started working on it yesterday. He featured Mduduzi on the song and it has one of Riky’s powerful messages. Fans have taken to Twitter to react to the song.

Big Zulu has learned the crucial lesson that has taught many of us to celebrate our legends while they’re still alive, to give them their flowers while they can still smell them. Tweeps have dug an old tweet where Big Zulu sang his praises for supporting upcoming artists and paving a way for them in the industry. He also expressed his gratitude for his support and love.

In a statement released on behalf of Riky’s family they confirmed his passing  and said he passed on in the early hours of the morning yestetday.

“Son, husband, father, brother and uncle, Riky ‘Ricky’ Makhado (34) sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning (23rd February) in Johannesburg,”  

“Affectionately known as Riky Rick across the globe, he was deeply loved by his family, friends and the entire entertainment industry. His love for family, friends, and community is well known. Riky’s nurturing and developing of young musical talent is well documented and will forever be remembered,” reads the statement

They also pleaded for privacy and said his memorial and funeral details will be announced in due course. According to Sunday World, hung himself at his home in Johannesburg. A source informed the paper that Riky was alive but unfortunately, on the way to the hospital he died.

The rapper had also opened up about his struggle with depression and he was vocal about that. His passing has re-ignited a dialogue about depression and mental health.
