Reviews: #OPW: A proposal via WhatsApp

Sunday's episode of "Our Perfect Wedding" came with a bit of a twist when the groom proposed to his bride via social media.

We are always fascinated with how the couples who feature on #OPW met. Some of their stories leave us dumbfounded and others have us reaching for a Kleenex.

This week’s couple has a simple love story. Stephen asked Mmasetshaba for her digits in exchange for a bottle of coke. Before she knew it, he proposed to her via WhatsApp. Yep, it was that simple.

Judging from the previous shows, it seems like the couples are bringing their A-game and making sure social media is left with little to no criticism.

This week’s couple also made sure they impressed us with their nuptials. Let’s start with Mmasetshaba’s wedding dress. It was nice, nothing out of the ordinary, she was beautiful in every sense of the word, and we commend the person who did her make up for drawing back her missing eyebrows flawlessly.

The biggest mistake Mmasetshaba made, though, was letting her maid of honour choose her own design. It’s either the woman wasn’t happy for her or she wasn’t in the right frame of mind when she chose that dress. She practically looked like a human disco light.

The bridesmaids left us a bit confused with their dresses, maybe it has to be the capes? They just seemed a bit awkward. But nonetheless, the girls were beautiful.

We don’t understand why no effort was placed on the flower girl. Her hair was not done and she was dressed like she was going to perform in a play. There's no doubt that she'll be annoyed at Mmasetshaba after ten years.

Otherwise, Mmasetshabe made sure that her husband looked snazzed up and dandy in his black and white suit.

The groomsmen's suits were another miss. The suits were tailored properly, but we don’t agree with the waistcoats. People have to understand that shiny doesn’t always mean appealing.

Social media played an important role in Mmasetshaba’s life, not only did she get a proposal on social media but she also managed to find a killer traditional outfit on Facebook. The blue and white traditional attire was a show stopper. We never knew tradition could be so elegant? We hope this gives some of our Ministers an idea of what is required during the SONA.

Unfortunately, like in most weddings, there has to be an uncle or aunt who has to lose the plot or do something embarrassing. We are not going to forgive Stephen's aunt for calling TD Jakes, Teddy Jackson. She knew that she was on the programme and she should have revised her speech or do research even, anything to avoid embarrassment. Still on speeches let’s not forget the groom’s sister for crying during her speech. We understand she got a tad carried away with her emotions and we suggest she refrains from giving speeches in the future.

And of course, there were those who were not impressed with the WhatsApp proposal.

We give this wedding a seven. The other points were subtracted by the shabby-looking maid of honour and flower girl.
