3 Reasons why we want Glen and Unathi off Air

Glen and Unathi have been on air for as long as many Metro FM listeners can remember. Their show, The Avenue with Glen & Unathi has been a hallmark of Metro FM's reign as one of Mzansi's hottest radio stations. The two appear to have a great level of chemistry with their witty back and forth and their entertaining conversation topics, we've loved them on air (Well, most of us) but there appears to be trouble in paradise.

You might remember our recent article where we revealed that Glen was unhappy on The Avenue, mostly because of Unathi's condescending ways and several off-the-record incidents with his partner. Apparently he's been trying to break away from Unathi for several years and the only thing keeping them together is the contract he's signed. We're going to be a little controversial here and side with Glen. We'd like to see them split. We'd like to see the end of Glen & Unathi. Why on earth would we want such a thing? Let's break it down for you.

Glen is clearly unhappy

Look, staying together for the kids never works. When you fall out of love, you're out of it, and falling back into it is like trying to go back to the days when eTolls weren't a thing. It's not up to you, and it's impossible. Likewise, Glen is clearly disillusioned with his life on The Avenue at the moment. It's terribly sad to see, but the best thing for everybody would be for Glen to take a stand, cut his losses and start making a new path for himself. After all, it's not as if he's getting younger. He has a few more opportunities on a big show before it's time for him to hang up the mic. Call it quits now Glen, and enjoy the tail end of your career.

Unathi has changed since Idols

Unathi is an excellent Idols judge, and one of the finest radio DJs in the country. However, it's no secret that she's changed since the Idols gig came along. Maybe it's a bit of an ego booster, or maybe she's become more accomplished and has gained more confidence through that. We're not saying it's a bad thing, but, like in chemistry, a change in one of the elements of a compound will result in the compound itself changing. If Unathi changes, her chemistry with Glen changes, the show changes. We'd like to see Unathi making moves to consolidate her Idols status and become more known for that than just The Avenue.

A chance for Metro to show they are not afraid of change

Remember when 5FM ditched Sasha Martinengo and Ian F? They replaced them with the relatively unknown (At the time) Grant and Anele. The loud, vibrant pair might not have held the clout that Sasha and F did, but the impact they made was undeniable as they added a freshness and vibrancy that 5FM had been missing in the afternoons. Grant retired from radio after his stint on the show, but Anele is now one of the biggest media personalities in South Africa and her excellent conduct on the afternoon show can take plenty of credit for that. Metro FM has a chance to do the same thing. Imagine if Glen and Unathi left, and The Avenue had a new face and a new voice. Imagine a young, upcoming and clearly talented DJ- and we're sure you can think of a few- making the step up to one of the biggest morning shows in the country and making their impact. Metro FM would never be the same again; all it takes is a little boldness.

Realistically, we don't see any big changes happening on The Avenue with Glen and Unathi for a long time. Like we mentioned at the very top, the contractual obligations leave the pair tied up and put them in a difficult spot. But we do believe that change is good, and we hope to see some on Metro FM in the near future.
